  • My love for cello grew stronger every year

My lessons with Sharon were the highlight of my week throughout high school. Those hour sessions every week became my safe space where I could tell her whatever was on my mind and feel fully supported and encouraged through anything. My love for cello grew stronger every year with her and now, in Uni I have become a cello teacher myself. Cello continues to be a big part of my life in ensembles and teaching, and she is a huge part of the reason I have so much love for this instrument and music in general.

  • I have enjoyed her tuition

Starting to learn the cello at age 81, I did have my doubts as to whether I was taking on more than I could manage. However, the warm encouragement of Sharon has helped put those doubts to rest and I have enjoyed her tuition over the course of the past year and gained confidence in my ability to progress.

  • I look forward to my lessons

I have been lucky to find Sharon as a teacher and grateful she has taken me on as her student. I am an old adult beginner and Sharon has been a great teacher who has been gentle, systematic and encouraging. She insists on proper technique without shortcuts and still makes allowance for my particular difficulties (such as thumb arthritis and inflexibility). I benefit from the specific exercises she prescribes to overcome technical problems. I look forward to my lessons and always come away feeling positive about my progress on the cello journey.

  • The group has a wonderfully inclusive and supportive atmosphere

Melbourne Community Cellists is such a vibrant, supportive and fun group. As an adult cello learner, I had never previously played in an ensemble, however there was no need to be nervous as the group has a wonderfully inclusive and supportive atmosphere. Sharon chooses the ‘right’ balance of challenging and fun pieces, and we’ve explored all sorts of fabulous music genres. Joining the group has also enhanced my solo cello skills. I highly recommend joining!
